Almost every state in the South boasts a legendary golf course or 2 or 10! It’s hard to know where to begin with an overview of all the amazing courses the South has to offer. Looking to Charleston, S.C.
Yeamans’s Hall Club is one of the finest offerings in the region.
Engineer/golf course architect Seth Raynor lovingly designed this one using a series of template holes he developed with Charles Blair MacDonald in the early decades of the 20th Century.

Yeaman’s Hole began operation in 1925 and its linear designed holes melded perfectly with its low country surroundings. The Redan, Biarritz, and Short Hole are some of the highlights. Principal’s Nose bunker is another landmark to watch for in the first fairway. Current superintendent Jim Yonce has restored this course back to its former glory and it now ranks among Golfweek’s best classic courses.

The man, the myth, the legend himself Robert Trent Jones Sr. first made his mark in the American golf course design scene with Peachtree Golf Club in Atlanta in 1948. In partnership with former amateur Robert Tyre, Jones strove to build a course to rival Augusta National with lush parkland views, rolling hills, and luxuriously elevated greens.

Up in Virginia the mountain resort known as Homestead Resort is the home of the famous Cascade Course in Hot Springs, VA. Steep terrain, dramatic views, and a secluded mountain setting help make this course truly unique. In addition, the resort features old style health spa amenities and loads of Southern hospitality and charm.

The first set of golf clubs I ever owned was an old set of ping clubs my Father had handed down to me. Little did I know of the great quality that these clubs were made with. As I look back on the times when I was first learning how to play golf and I have great appreciation for my father and the wonderful gift of Ping golf clubs.

Nowadays when I go golfing with my children, I smile as I see my 9 year old son swing his old wal-mart driver!!!

The Winter Creek Golf Course at the Winter Creek Golf Club complex in Blanchard, OK is 18 holes of probably the finest golf you’ll find in the entire Sooner State. Here you’ll be greeted by over 7,000 of golfing paradise on this par 72 course. Bermuda grass carpets this beautiful
127 slope rated golfers haven. Created by master designer Rocky Roquemore, Winter Creek has made a name for itself across the country in the 6 short years it has been in operation.

When you find yourself in the Thackerville area then there’s one place which should be your first destination if you’re a golf lover. Head to the WinStar Golf Course located in the gorgeous WinStar Golf Course Facility. Here you’ll be treated to 7,340 yards of playing area on this par 72 course. Dreamed up by creator Steve Wolfard, this course has been going strong since 2006 and has already garnered a loyal following.
This moderate difficulty course is ideal for everyone from novice newbies to veteran duffers.

The Oklahoma State Parks system runs some fantastic courses as well.
The First of these is the Arrowhead State Park Golf Course located in close proximity to beautiful Lake Eufaula. This lovely 18 hole 72 par course offers challenging bent grass greens, Bermuda grass tees and fairways, some stunning views of the lake, very few water hazards and a scattering of sand bunkers. The complex also features a putting green, a driving range, a pro shop, carts and clubs for rent, and a variety of lesson options. Wildlife is abundant in the area and pilots can even fly directly into an adjacent air strip.

Another excellent state course is the Cedar Creek Golf Course at Beavers Bend. Majestic timber rises around the perimeters and the course is nestled in the hilly region known as Oklahoma’s “Little Smokies”. This Broken Bow area course is simply a breath taking location to play a round or two. It won’t take you long to see why Golf Digest gave this course a 4 star rating in 2002.

When you’re looking for great golf play in Texas, make the DFW area your first stop. Specifically Make the Texas Star Golf Course in Euless your first destination. This is the top rated course in the Dallas Fort Worth area and possibly the finest course in the whole state of Texas.
Championship-level play and down home friendliness are what make this course so fantastic. Architect Keith Foster’s design work in creating this course adds a lot to its desirability as well. This 275 acre 4 star rated course will require every club in your bag and call on all of your skills to traverse its 7,000 yards of exciting and challenging golf.

San Antonio is full of world class courses, but one course has really raked in the high praise. The Westin’s La Cantera Resort is the place to be for many golfers who visit the Alamo city. 7,001 yards of 72 par golf are waiting for you there in the Texas hill country. Dramatic views of the landscape, the rock formations, and nearby Six Flags theme park are part of the magic of this course. Arnold Palmer deigned one award winning course, so you know you’ll face challenge and fun which go far beyond the ordinary when you play at La Cantera.

Houston has more than oil barons and gulf proximity; it also has some championship level golf venues! The semi-private Meadowbrook Farms Golf Club in nearby Katy, TX might just be the crown jewel of the Houston golf scene. Greg Norman himself designed this 7,100 yard course and he included tees for all levels, sod-wall bunkers, white sand, and gorgeous approachable greens. In addition you’ll be treated to breathtaking views of the surrounding forest land, grassy meadows, and beds of native wildflowers.

If you venture to Austin, you’ll find even more great golf in the Texas capitol. The Avery Ranch Golf Club ranks up there with the best courses Austin has to offer. This 7121 yard 18 hole world class course has 5 tee placements and offers challenging play for golfers of all levels.
Tif Eagle greens and 429 Bermuda fairways help make this one of the most highly rated golfing venues in Texas.
